A FOUNDATION-laying ceremony for a new mosque at Kampong Bukit Panggal was held yesterday morning.
It was officiated by Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, Minister of Religious Affairs and President of the Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB).
Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar, Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs and Deputy President of MUIB; Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Salim bin Haji Besar, Chief Syar’ie Judge; MUIB members; and Legislative Council members YB Haji Abdul Wahab bin Apong (Penghulu of Mukim Tanjong Maya), YB Haji Ramli bin Haji Lahit (Penghulu of Mukim Telisai) and YB Haji Umarali bin Esung also attended the ceremony.
Roslan bin Haji Taja’ah, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Administration and Financial Affairs) at the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA); Haji Mohd Serudin bin Haji Timbang, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Policy and Religious) at the MoRA; and penghulus, officials and village residents were also present.
The new mosque, built on a five-acre land costing BND3 million was funded by the Brunei Darussalam Mosque Construction Fund. It is expected to be completed in July. Once completed, the mosque will be able to accommodate around 600 congregants.
The new mosque has facilities such as a male prayer hall, female prayer area, a classroom, library and ICT room, guests reception room, Imam and Bilal office, toilets and Wudhu area, and Jenazah management area.
The minister was briefed about the mosque construction by Haji Muhazzam bin Dato Seri Paduka Haji Awang Abdul Mokti, an architect at the Public Works Department, Ministry of Development. The highlight of the event was the ceremonial pouring of cement for the mosque foundation.
