PEER Guidance Counsellors (PRR) of Sayyidina Ali Secondary School’s (SMSA) in Kuala Belait conducted a ‘Syawal Charity Drive-Thru’ programme under the guidance of the school’s counselling unit, which consisted of collecting daily necessities from various sources for the orphans studying at the school.

Daily necessities such as rice, cooking oil, cordial drinks, condensed milk, biscuits, sugar, coffee, tea and canned foods were gathered by the students from the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), teachers and students of SMSA, as well as from the members of the public and non-governmental organisations.

A total of 42 orphans received the donation in a ceremony held on June 5 at the school.

Principal of SMSA Pengiran Hajah Zeiniun binti Pengiran Mudin and Chairman of PTA Nordin bin Haji Zainal handed over the donation.

The programme aimed at reducing the burden for the families of the orphans while preparing for Hari Raya; educating SMSA students on the importance of helping the needy; and training PRR members to apply the skills they acquired in their Student Leadership Induction Workshop held in March this year.

The collection of daily necessities was carried out every school days from May 1-12 at 8am to noon at the school’s foyer.

The PRR expressed its gratitude to everyone for their cooperation and generosity as well as the support from the school. SMSA hoped to organise similar events in the future.
