THE Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) and Autoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam (AMBD) recently visited the Koperasi Persatuan TIBA (KOTIBA) filling station in Salambigar, as part of a joint awareness campaign on counterfeit currency and crime prevention.
The visit began with a distribution of crime prevention pamphlets to motorists purchasing fuel at the station, which was followed by an AMBD briefing to the station employees on the various security features in Brunei Darussalam’s bank note.
The station employees were also treated to an AMBD interactive session, which showed them how to verify their customers’ banknotes at the point of sale. The Adviser of KOTIBA, Haji Gharif bin Dato Seri Laila Haji Samat, was then presented with a packet of informative pamphlets from Assistant Commissioner of Police Haji Mohammad Hassan bin Pehin Penyurat Haji Ahmad, the Acting Director of the Criminal Investigation Department .
The RBPF also emphasised the importance of safety to the KOTIBA staff and management, especially in handling customers with suspected money.
Through the sharing of these tips, the RBPF hopes to boost public knowledge and awareness on preventable crimes. Meanwhile, the AMBD’s ‘Know Your Currency’ campaign is aimed at safeguarding the currency and protecting businesses through the staff’s ability to distinguish between genuine and counterfeit banknotes.
Business owners have also been advised to install high-quality CCTVs over areas of payment transactions between shop attendants and customers, which can often assist in police investigation.
The joint campaign will continue throughout 2018, as a follow-up to AMBD’s ‘Know Your Currency Talk’, which was held last month for the representatives of local retail shops, supermarkets, textile businesses and filling stations.
