TO ENSURE safety of road users during the upcoming Hari Raya celebration, the Brunei National Road Safety Council (BNRSC) yesterday held the ‘Road Safety Awareness Campaign’ at seven selected locations in the country simultaneously.
The campaign is held every year ahead of Hari Raya Aidilfitri festival period and aims to increase alertness among the public, especially road users.
At various locations in the country, the campaign urged motorists to drive courteously and cautiously during Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.
Leading the campaign at the Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Highway was the Minister of Communications Awang Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yusof in his capacity as Chairman of BNRSC.
In an interview, Chairman of Brunei Insurance Takaful Association (BITA) Haji Osman bin Haji Md Jair reminded road users to always abide by the road traffic rules and practise prudent driving habits, especially during heavy downpour. He also urged them to always wear safety belt, not to use the mobile phone while driving and avoid speeding.
Also present at the campaign were representatives of the Ministry of Home Affairs, members of BNRSC and representatives of non-government organisation Brunei Darussalam Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) and private sector firm Empire Solutions; both donors for the event.
During yesterday’s campaign, recycled bags, green Hari Raya packets, stickers and posters from BDRCS and contributions from Empire Solutions as well as individuals were handed over to motorists.
Meanwhile, at the Giant Hypermarket in Rimba, the campaign was led by member of the Legislative Council (LegCo) Yang Berhormat Iswandy bin Ahmad as ambassador of BNRSC and Acting Director of the Traffic Control and Investigation Department (JSKLL) Senior Superintendent Husaini bin Haji Matzin together with representatives from Empire Solutions, BDRCS and other BNRSC members.
Meanwhile at Tungku Link Highway, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Communications (MinCom) Haji Azhar bin Haji Ahmad in his capacity as Deputy Chairman II of BNRSC and Chairman of Brunei Automobile Association (PPAB) Kheong as General Ambassador of BNRSC headed the campaign.
In the Tutong District, the campaign was held at Hua Ho Petani Mall, led by member of the LegCo and Penghulu of Mukim Telisai Yang Berhormat Haji Ramli bin Haji Lahit.
Also leading the campaign were Tutong District Officer Haji Shamsul Bahrin bin Haji Mohd Hussain, Superintendent of Police Suhairi bin Haji Sukri, Commanding Officer of the Tutong Police District and members of the BNRSC including from government agencies such as Royal Customs and Excise Department and BDRCS.
In an interview, Yang Berhormat Haji Ramli urged motorists to plan their visiting schedule appropriately and be courteous and kind to other road users, keeping in line with the spirit of Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
In Belait District, the campaign was held at the front car lobby of KB Sentral Shopping Centre and saw the presence of LegCo member and Village Head of Kampong Labi I Yang Berhormat Hanapi bin Mohd Siput and Deputy Permanent Secretary at the MinCom Dr Haji Supry bin Haji Awang Ladi in his capacity as secretary of the BNRSC.
Also present at the event were Acting Belait District Officer, Chairman of the Kuala Belait and Seria Municipal Board, representatives of Empire Solutions, Belait branch manager of BDRCS and members of BNRSC.
In a brief interview, Yang Berhormat Hanapi said that the campaign will help raise awareness among the public on the importance of road safety during Hari Raya celebrations.
In Temburong District, a similar campaign was also conducted.
