SPEAKING to the Borneo Bulletin during the opening of the Working Visit Programme of the Confederation of ASEAN Journalists (CAJ) in Bangkok, CAJ President Tepchai Yong said that the CAJ, as part of the ASEAN family, “is almost complete, but it cannot truly be so without the participation of Brunei Darussalam”.
Extending an invitation to national journalist associations in Brunei to join the CAJ, Yong said, “Journalists in Brunei must form an association and forge cooperation with other (counterpart) associations in ASEAN member countries through the CAJ. This is important because journalists play a big role in fostering understanding and good relations between the communities within the bloc.”
The working visit programme is part of activities under the Action Plan adopted by the CAJ at its General Assembly held in Bangkok earlier this year. It aims to foster closer cooperation between journalists and create better understanding among the people within the region.
Earlier in his speech during the opening ceremony of the programme, Yong noted that 2018 is a very important year for both Thailand and Laos as both countries are celebrating their tourism promotion year, adding that both Thailand and Laos are home to friendly, charming people that possess their own unique history and culture.
