HER Royal Highness Princess Anak Puteri Ameerah Wardatul Bolkiah joined 29 other Jerudong International School (JIS) Year 5 Bahasa Melayu and Foreign Language Malay students on an educational visit yesterday to Lambak Kanan Jalan 49 Primary School to get an insight into Bahasa Melayu.
The trip was organised by Head of Asian Languages at the Jerudong International School Melhan Adam, who together with four other staff members from the Asian Languages faculty accompanied the students.
Melhan said, “We are very grateful to the headmistress, teachers and students of Lambak Kanan Jalan 49 Primary School for extending such a warm welcome to the Year 5 Bahasa Melayu and Foreign Language Malay students. Such an event provides a wonderful opportunity to our students to speak Malay and make new friends.”
The educational visit commenced with opening remarks by Headmistress of the school Hajah Noorliah binti Haji Aspar, followed by a briefing on the day’s activities.
She explained that the school has included the utilisation of information and communication technology (ICT) as one of the tools to achieve best practices in its teaching, learning and education.
She said the school is fully committed to achieve the mandate given by the Ministry of Education, which is to use ICT as an effective learning tool. The ICT vision of the school, ‘Enhancing 21st Century Skills Using ICT to Empower Learning’ has enabled the students to gain commendable improvement in Bahasa Melayu in Primary School Assessment from 73 per cent grade ‘A’ to ‘C’ in 2011 to 95.16 per cent in 2017.
She also expressed hope that the visit can be a platform to generate new ideas on how teaching, learning and education can be enhanced, especially in the utilisation of ICT as an effective tool for the benefit of the community of teachers and students of both schools. The visiting JIS Year 5 students then joined in a Bahasa Melayu lesson with students from Lambak Kanan Jalan 49 Primary School conducted by three Bahasa Melayu teachers – Hajah Rafeah binti Haji Salleh, Firdaus bin Haji Hamidon and Aryati binti Haji Ahmad.
In the Bahasa Melayu class, Her Royal Highness Princess Ameerah Wardatul Bolkiah participated in various activities with other students in learning about Peribahasa (proverbs) and Penjodoh Bilangan (classifiers).
