GIRL Guides Association of Brunei Darussalam (PPPBD) President Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah yesterday presented warrants and pre-warrant cards as well as Tenderfoot badges to 287 members during a ceremony at Rimba I Primary School.
Her Royal Highness was greeted upon arrival by PPPBD Chief Commissioner Hajah Siti Hafsah binti Haji Abdul Halim and PPPBD organising committee members.
Members of the association later belted out the national anthem, Girl Guide World and Asia-Pacific Region songs.
In her welcoming address, Hajah Siti Hafsah explained that 45 members of the Young Leaders from the Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan (KUPU SB) had registered to become member last year.
“With their participation, they can be recognised as future leaders of the association,” she said.
She went on to discuss the development of their membership; the board of governance has carried out voluntary community projects to attract the interest of young members. The Young Leaders Unit has carried out several Sustainable Development Projects, under which, members of all ages can involve themselves in beneficial activities towards self development.
Touching on the Green Fingers project, she explained that the project is being implemented in four phases, each with its own management team. The first phase involved 65 association members running the project.
The second phase Teratak Jari Hijau – which involved Junior Girl Guides, Girl Guides and Young Leaders – yielded vegetables and fruits which were sold during the World Thinking Day in February 2018.
The third phase of the project involved fund-raising and the collecting of food necessities for Ramadhan, with the collected items later distributed to those in need.
The fourth phase involved the distribution of 1,000 portions of rice porridge and bubur kacang to the public during Ramadhan, which involved all members, she explained.
The ceremony continued with the oath of allegiance recitation, led by Equipment Secretary Nurul Wafaa binti Awang Mohammad, who is also the Leader for Menglait Secondary School Girl Guide team. The Junior Girl Guides Pledge was led by Azanah binti Haji Ahad from Lambak Kanan Jalan 49 Primary School.
Her Royal Highness then awarded the Tenderfoot membership badges, leaders warrant and pre-warrant cards to leaders, young leaders, Ranger Guides, Girl Guides and Junior Girl Guides. The membership badge is the main requisite allowing association members to take part in activities organised by the PPPBD and the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts.
The association has 1,800 members.
