UP TO 96.5 per cent of the country’s population listen to the radio, with 89.6 per cent of the population tuning in to programmes in Radio Brunei networks, a recent study shows, said the Director of Radio Television Brunei (RTB) Haji Muhammad Suffian bin Haji Bungsu said yesterday.
He made the remark in his speech during a prize presentation ceremony for winners of the Hari Raya SMS Radio Quiz at the RTB Building in the capital yesterday, that also saw a Hari Raya celebration organised by Radio Brunei.
Haji Muhammad Suffian highlighted the importance of Radio Brunei to constantly look for ways to gauge the interest of the public through programmes that are in line with their role which is to inform, educate, entertain, inspire and to engage with their audience.
He added that several public suggestions for improvement were also made during the recent study, that among others called for more interactive quiz programmes for all ages; adding more variety to interactive programmes such as religious education, in addition to entertainment; programmes reaching out to more people in all corners of the country and the encouraging continuous talent, capability and skill development of radio presenters.
Based on the overwhelming response on the Hari Raya SMS Radio Quiz, he called on Radio Brunei to continuously amplify their efforts by producing radio programmes that are in tune with listeners’ appetite.
Some 30 individuals who took part in the Hari Raya SMS Radio Quiz that was aired in Radio Brunei’s five radio networks Nasional FM, Pilihan FM, Pelangi FM, Harmoni FM and Rangkaian Nur Islam received prizes from the RTB Director during the event.
The programme is part of Radio Brunei’s efforts to boost their interaction with the community by attracting the participation of its audiences and loyal fans for educational as well as entertainment purposes, while also boosting government revenue through the quizzes.
