KOTA Kinabalu (KK) women’s basketball team are one step closer to lift the Tan Che Eu challenge trophy after cruising to an easy win over Miri women’s team 78-44 yesterday in the 2018 Borneo City Basketball Invitation Tournament at the Brunei Basketball Association Basketball Court in Batu Bersurat.
The team finished with three players scoring double figures; Sunny Chin contributed a high of 17 points while her teammate Liaw Mei Fun had 12 points and captain Suzee Chin with 10 points.
Adeline Cheng was the only player from the Miri team who scored double figure with 11 points for the whole game.
KK took a four-point lead 7-11 in the first quarter, then managed to pull away with a big lead after forcing their opponents to turn the ball over through strong defensive plays.
KK ended the second quarter leading 31-16 to go into the interval.
Outclassed, KK team continued to dominate the game in the third and fourth quarters to hold off Miri.
In the Veteran category, Miri emerged winners against Labuan with 93-84.
KK will face Brunei women’s team at 1pm today, while the Brunei veteran team will tip off against Labuan at 2.30pm. Brunei men’s team will be tested against Miri at 4pm.
