EASYWAY cruised to a comprehensive 99-34 victory over Ceramic Pro Brunei in Group ‘B’ of the YOU-C 1000 Basketball Cup at the Brunei Basketball Association Court in Batu Bersurat last night.
Easyway import Chris Charles was the highest-scoring player after managing an impressive 37 points in a single game.
The pre-tournament favourites upped the tempo in the third quarter as Choo Yung Jian made a neat bounce pass for Lyndon Gudez who completed the move with a tidy finish.
Choo returned to haunt the Ceramic defence, pacing his way towards the offensive on his own before gliding his way to a fine lay-up.
Easyway marquee man Chris Charles was re-introduced to the game and he quickly returned where he left off with a simple finish before helping out the defence and starting the move with an outlet pass.
Choo, who has been immense in his side’s attacking overtures, demonstrated that such threat could switch from one player to the other after his baseline shot drew gasps of excitement.
Charles drove but received contact and was handed a free throw where he duly converted with ease before showing brisk movement to complete a neat finish.
Ceramic had a chance through the combination of Lim How and Teo Siang Leng but the move resulted in the ball hitting the rim. With the chance disappeared, Easyway extended their scoring run with Hung Ing Wai picking up the pieces after Goh Wei Ming missed.
Lim finally ended the run with a three-pointer for Ceramic before F Barcellano got his name in the score-sheet for Easyway.
Easyway had an opportunity to close the quarter in style in what could have been a contender for the pass of the game but Marcus Quirk missed his shot after being set up by Goh.
Barcellano made a baseball pass to Goh who made good footwork to sink the ball home.
Ceramic’s Tan Ye Wei made a neat shot to add more points to his side before Hung produced a good individual play utilising the space with good movement.
Easyway’s strength proved too much in the end and Charles was a factor causing plenty of concerns to the Ceramic defence after winning the rebound on multiple occasions.
The Easyway import’s nearly 40-point game epitomised how difficult for the defence to keep him quiet and the way he ended his scoring total standing in the right position to steer the ball further illustrated his diverse range of play.
