THE Museums Department announced that there will be no entry charge to visit the Regatta Exhibition 2018 being held in conjunction with His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam 72nd birthday celebrations.
The exhibition is being held at the Dermaga Diraja’s ‘C’ Gallery in the capital, and carries the theme ‘Sungai Brunei – Penghubung Budaya Warisan Brunei or Brunei River – Connecting Brunei Cultural Heritage.’ It is held from August 12 to November 12, and will be open daily from 9am to 4.30pm, except on Friday, when it will be open from 9am to 11.30am and again from 2.30pm to 4.30pm.
The event looks to educate the public – particularly the younger generation – on the age-old Brunei tradition of boat races (regatta), while at the same time serve as a platform to increase awareness on the key role played by the Brunei River in connecting the community back in the olden days.
It will also showcase the involvement of His Majesty and members of the royal family in the regatta in 2016 and 2017 through video presentations and newspaper cuttings’ exhibits.
The exhibition also features 22 art collections made by students from Duli Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah College (Maktab Duli), Kolej International Graduate Studies (KIGS), Sayyidina Othman Secondary School, Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Secondary School and the Special Education Unit of the Ministry of Education.
