RAMADHAN is a holy month of giving and to be charitable to underprivileged people, following the teachings and traditions of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).
As such, the Sayyidina Abu Bakar Secondary School (SMSAB) recently organised a charity market programme called ‘As-Souq Al-Majani’, marking the second time that the school has held the programme.
The event was officiated by the Acting Senior Education Officer, Students Affairs Division, Department of Schools, Ministry of Education, Haji Saili bin Haji Chuchu.
It was a unique way of doing charity, whereby recipients, comprising selected students, can choose to buy whatever was available in the market using coupons that they were given.
The programme was also one of the community service activities of ‘Peer Counselors Group’ and the ‘A-Team’ under the Department of Schools’ Counselling and Career Guidance Section.
A total of 300 students, including 245 under the Miftahuun Najaah Scheme, 38 orphans, six from the Student Welfare Fund and 30 from Dato Basir Primary School, received coupons to purchase items on offer that included daily necessities, food, school stationery and clothing.
Among the event’s objectives were to encourage leadership and teamwork, as well as strengthening ties between the school, contributors and recipients.
