MEMBERS of the public who purchase any items from The Body Shop branches nationwide from June 13 to 19 will automatically be shopping for charity. Part of the proceeds from sales will go to the food bag fund of the Women’s Business Council of Brunei Darussalam (WBC).
The ‘Shop with a Cause’ initiative is held in collaboration between the Women Business Council Brunei Darussalam and The Body Shop to raise funds for WBC’s food bag of 16 essential items to be distributed to selected underprivileged families under the welfare list of the Community Development Department.
Within this week, Annie Teow, the Marketing and Training Manager of The Body Shop said, “Shoppers at The Body Shop will be given 10 per cent discount for non-members and 15 per cent discount for members. The discounts collected will be used for sponsoring WBC’s food bag of 16 essentials to help underprivileged families.”
“The initiative is done in conjunction of the holy month of Ramadhan, where The Body Shop is collaborating with (Women) business council with the main purpose of helping the underprivileged families listed under the Community Development Department in the form of financial help or basic food supplies,” she added.
Meanwhile, Datin Paduka Hajah Rokiah binti Haji Zakiah, the President of WBC conveyed her heartfelt gratitude to The Body Shop for the collaboration.
Hajah Mordiah binti Haji Jackia, the Vice-President of WBC said, “The recipients of the food items are people who are currently receiving welfare allowance from the Community Development Department and they are either with low or no income. Therefore, the charity drive is hoped to help ease the burden of the families. We also hope that the event can also raise awareness on sharing and caring within the society.”
Through the collaboration, she said, “WBC is carrying out the Infaq Project. ‘Infaq’ is an Arabic word, which means the ‘spirit of giving’ in English. The collected fund will be used to purchase food items including Hari Raya cakes to help ease the burden of underprivileged families. The handing out of food items is expected to be held on July 1.”
“We also welcome more corporations from the private sector to come forward for collaboration not only for Hari Raya but also other charitable events,” she added.
