Skywatching helps students learn about solar system

OVER 300 Years 4, 5 and 6 students of the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (YSHHB) Primary School attended the night skywatching programme at 7pm at the YSHHB Secondary School parking area, concourse and main entrance yesterday.

The event was organised by the Science Department led by Head of Department Shanju Najumunniza Ammal in collaboration with the Survey Department, Ministry of Development.

Present at the event was school Headmistress Cikgu Hajah Mariam binti Haji Ladi. Teachers, staff, parents and guardians were also present.

The event began with the recitation of Doa by Ustaz Norhashim bin Haji Kassim.

Cikgu Hajah Mariam expressed appreciation to the Science Department for organising the programme. She also expressed gratitude to the Survey Department for the support.

Students were briefed on astronomy by Survey Department representatives before viewing the full moon, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn.

The event concluded with quizzes.

The event aimed to teach students about the solar system, provide a closer view of the full-moon and provide first-hand experience using telescopes. It also sought to encourage students to learn more about the solar system in line with SPN21.
