Taufiq bags gold in 10-ball singles

AHMAD Taufiq Murni bagged gold medal in the men’s 10-ball pool singles after cruising to an 8-1 victory over Muhammad Azim in an all-Brunei-Muara District affair in the 4th Brunei Darussalam National Games (SKBD) at the Billiards & Snooker Hall of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex yesterday.

Brunei-Muara District asserted dominance after four players featured in the last-eight draw with three of those sealing progress to the subsequent round.

Ahmad Taufiq, the Brunei number one pool player, romped to an 8-1 win over Tutong District’s Md Hassanuddin in the quarter-finals before repeating the same result against Brunei-Muara teammate Md Qusyairi en route to the final.

The national player also enjoyed an 8-1 victory over Higher Education Institutions’ Zulyadiy in the last-16 during the pair’s first competitive meeting at the national level.

Muhammad Azim settled for silver and his passage to the final witnessed an 8-0 win over Combined Telecommunication Companies’ Md Isa in the last eight before beating Temburong District’s Md Hadie.

Md Qusyairi ensured a complete podium finish for Brunei-Muara District with joint bronze after advancing to the semi-finals with the other bronze medallist going to Md Hadie.

Meanwhile, Md Hasrijam of the Temburong District won gold in the men’s six red snooker singles after defeating Muhidi of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council (MS ABDB) 3-1 in the final.

Temburong District’s Abdul Rahim and Brunei-Muara District’s Pengiran Khairul Rijal shared joint bronze for their efforts in reaching the last four of the competition.
