WELFARE Body of Police’s Wives and Families (PEKERTI) President Datin Hajah Kamariah binti Haji Abdul Hamid yesterday officiated the launch of two speech therapy rooms at Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam.
Datin Hajah Kamariah was accompanied by PEKERTI Chairperson Pengiran Datin Hajah Zauyah binti Pengiran Haji Sulaiman, as well as the spouses of the head and deputy head of delegations for the 38th ASEANAPOL Conference.
PEKERTI also contributed two sets of desktop computers, two sets of children’s furniture and oral placement therapy tools for Pusat Ehsan. The new speech therapy rooms will provide clinical management and diagnosis of speech disorders for children with development disabilities.
Pusat Ehsan Executive Trustee Pengiran Datin Hajah Noraini binti Pengiran Dipa Negara Laila Diraja Pengiran Haji Abdul Momin and Pusat Ehsan Policy and Planning Trustee Haji Ahmad bin Haji Abdul Rahman were among the officials who welcomed the visitors to the centre. Pengiran Datin Hajah Noraini said in her welcoming remarks, “Pusat Ehsan was officially opened in October 2000. Over the years, with the guidance of the Patron and Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, Her Royal Highness Princess ‘Azemah Ni’matul Bolkiah, the centre has become a special needs school with a holistic approach, where education and rehabilitation programmes are carried out.”
She added, “Today, we have more than 200 students in Bandar Seri Begawan. Due to high demand, we have opened a branch in Kuala Belait with around 70 children attending the programmes.”
Later, the visitors were given a tour of the facilities, and witnessed a performance by the children of Pusat Ehsan.
