JERUDONG Park Medical Centre (JPMC) has announced the next step in achieving its vision to be the first choice for healthcare in Brunei Darussalam with the launch of the new digital dental imaging system, ‘VATECH Green16’.

The launch was officiated by Minister of Health and Chairman of JPMC Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Md Isham bin Haji Jaafar.

According to a press release, Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Md Isham stated, “VATECH Green16 has an advanced digital dental imaging system with a complex reconstruction algorithm which provides better quality in dental imaging.

“The dental imaging for the dental system provides a beneficial tool for periodontists to use in diagnosis, treatment planning and surgical management, especially in patents with complex cases. The three-dimensional nature of Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) offers enhanced diagnostic information and increased accuracy compared to the two-dimensional imaging,” he said.

“The new equipment will bring huge benefits and positive impact on the care we provide to our patents,” he continued, noting that it takes only 5.9 seconds per scan, “which minimises patients’ radiation exposure and the new installation of the digital dental imaging system at JPMC is wonderful news for the patients who use JPMC’s dental service”.

“It puts us at the forefront of dental technology and will mean that our patients will benefit from increased accuracy in dental treatment,” he added.

Meanwhile, Head of the JPMC Dental Clinic Dr Ravindra Pai said that patients requiring complex dental imaging as part of their dental treatment are set to benefit from this new cone beam CT scanner.

“Patients who need dental implants and complex wisdom teeth extractions will be able to scan with better anatomical visualisation for proper treatment planning,” said Dr Pai.

It was shared that the scanner has a low-dose of radiation, with a high-speed scanner, high-sensitivity and resolution detector with a noise reduction algorithm to compensate for reduced dose. It also has the ability to minimise ‘motion artifact’ due to the movement of the patient, thus delivering high-quality images.

According to JPMC Chief Operating Officer Varghese Paulose, “The CBCT lets doctors diagnose with precision. It is effective for the extraction of wisdom teeth, which often gets tricky due to their proximity of the inferior alveolar nerve and dental implants. This technology reduces radiation exposure without sacrificing but even improving image quality because the two factors are closely related.

“Dental radiation per scan is relatively lower than other medical CTs. VATECH Green16 is one of the world’s lowest radiation, advanced four-in-one digital dental imaging system that incorporates PANO, CEPH CBCT and MODEL Scan. It provides high quality images with lower radiation by combining imaging processing and accumulated experience in dental imaging. This will improve the diagnostic accuracy with increased treatment planning and patient satisfaction.”

It was added in the press release that the dental clinic is open for consultations from Monday to Friday from 8am to noon, and from 1pm to 5pm. On Saturdays, the clinic is open from 8am to noon only. Services offered include general dental health check-up, gum disease screening, orthodontics and braces, wisdom teeth extraction, dental x-ray screening and many more.
