HIS Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah yesterday attended the Akad Nikah (solemnisation of marriage vows) ceremony of his son Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Muda Dr Abdul Fattaah to Dayangku Elina Zuraidah binti Pengiran Kamaluddin.
Also in attendance at the ceremony held at the Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque in the capital were His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah and other members of the royal family.
On arrival, His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah was greeted by Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Indera Setia Diraja Sahibul Karib Pengiran Anak Haji Idris bin Pengiran Maharaja Lela Pengiran Muda Abdul Kahar and Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Indera Negara Pengiran Anak Haji Puteh ibni Al-Marhum Pengiran Pemancha Pengiran Anak Haji Mohamed Alam.
Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Muda Dr Abdul Fattaah’s arrival at the mosque was accompanied by his brother Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Muda Omar Ali.
Chief Syar’ie Judge Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Salim bin Haji Besar conducted the Akad Nikah ritual.
Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Muda Dr Abdul Fattaah, handsomely dressed in traditional all-white attire was seated on a special royal groom mat called Kasur dan Namat that was surrounded by four ceremonial candles called Dian Empat placed on each corner, and affirmed his acceptance of the Akad Nikah to Dayangku Elina Zuraidah binti Pengiran Kamaluddin.
The highlight of the ceremony was the recitation of Lafaz Ta’alik, where Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Salim read the solemnisation sermon and elaborated on the vows and the groom’s undertaking of union in lifelong love and companionship.
Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Muda Dr Abdul Fattaah later acknowledged the vows and then recited his vows and signed the form, to conclude the solemnisation ceremony.
A Doa Selamat was read by Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Salim to bless the occasion.
His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah and His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah later received a Junjung Ziarah from Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Muda Dr Abdul Fattaah.
Also present at the ceremony yesterday were Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran-Pengiran Cheterias, Pengiran-Pengiran Peranakan and state dignitaries.
Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Muda Dr Abdul Fattaah is the son of His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah and Her Royal Highness Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Zariah.
Following the solemnisation, the series of ceremonies for the royal wedding will culminate in a Bersanding ceremony that will take place tomorrow at the Balai Penghadapan Bukit Kayangan.
