A YOUTH forum entitled Belia Berkepimpinan Menjayakan Wawasan Negara organised by Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) was held at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas yesterday.

Based on the university’s 8th Mahrajan Hafl Al-Takharruj (convocation festival), the forum was meant to be a platform to discuss how the country can generate successful youth leaders and to raise awareness on the importance of the role of youth in the nation’s development.

Panellists included Legislative Council (LegCo) member Yang Berhormat Iswandy bin Ahmad; LegCo member and recipient of the Queen’s Young Leaders Award 2015 Yang Berhormat Khairunnisa binti Haji Ash’ari; and co-founder of Bina Ukhwah Project and recipient of the Queen’s Young Leaders Award 2018 Pengiran Haji Ahmad Fadillah Akhbar bin Pengiran Haji Sellahhuddin.

Moderating the forum was UNISSA assistant lecturer of the Faculty of Usuluddin Ustaz Haji Mohd Khairul Nazif bin Haji Damit.

The forum was one of UNISSA’s community advisory service events aimed at raising awareness among the public on youth issues and getting them to participate with the panellists in the discussions and sharing their opinions and ideas.

Several youth issues relevant to the development of the community and the country were discussed by the panel members during the forum.

The speakers highlighted a number of things that Brunei’s youth need to do for the good of their country and themselves, such as the need to be more competitive and not be afraid of exploring opportunities beyond the country’s borders especially in this globalisation era; the need to equip themselves with the necessary tools and good values to become good leaders; the need to enhance their skills and expertise and their self-confidence to become more employable in the competitive public and private sectors; and the need to infuse their characters with Islamic values to face life’s challenges.
