BRUNEI Darussalam welcomed the new Islamic year of 1440 Hijrah – themed Ilmu dan Amal Nadi Wawasan Negara for this year – by holding religious celebration in mosques throughout the country last night.
For the Belait District, the ceremony was held at the Pekan Seria Mosque.
Attending this event as guest of honour was Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin.
Also present were Legislative Council members Yang Berhormat Haji Abdul Hamid bin Haji Mumin, Penghulu of Mukim Liang; and Yang Berhormat Hanapi bin Mohd Siput, Village Head of Kampong Labi 1; Acting Belait District Officer Ridzuan bin Haji Ahmad; Acting Secretary of Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB) Abdul Aziz bin Haji Akop; Head of Religious Officer of Belait District Haji Asminan bin Haji Chuchu; penghulus and village heads across the Belait District; as well as residents from the surrounding neighbourhoods of the Pekan Seria Mosque.
The ceremony began with the reading of Zikir and Doa Akhir Tahun 1439 Hijrah, followed by the mass Maghrib prayer and a recitation of Al-Quran verses led by Abdul Qayyum bin Haji Aminuddin from the Religious Affairs Office, Belait District.
A Tazkirah Hijrah was then delivered by Haji Aminordin bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Mosque Affairs Officer for Area II of the Belait District. A Doa Selamat and Sayyidul Istighfar recitation brought the ceremony to a close.
