FOURTEEN-YEAR-OLD Yzha Loraine Raga Deseo was crowned champion of the KB Sentral Spelling Bee competition held on the first floor of the KB Sentral Shopping Centre, Kuala Belait on Monday.
Thirteen contestants participated in the spelling bee competition held during the school holiday.
The competition was split into several rounds – in the first round, contestants were given two words each to spell before moving on to the second round as the complexity of the word increased until the last five contestants remained to advance to the third and final round where they competed for first place.
Their spelling performance was assessed by a panel of judges.
In the final round, Yzha Loraine correctly spelt ‘phenomenon’ to win the competition after 12-year-old Wadi Hamsyari bin Hamdani failed to spell his given word correctly. With Wadi Hamsyari securing second place, third place went to 10-year-old Md Darryl Rafael bin Edy Asmyra.
At the end of the competition, the top three winners received prizes including stationery and toys while the other contestants received toys for their participation.
The event was further enlivened with an appearance by the KB Sentral Spelling Bee Mascot to commemorate the achievements and efforts made by the contestants during the competition.
Marketing and Event Assistant Norazizah expressed gratitude to the parents and guardians for support during the event, and wished all future contestants in the next spelling bee competition slated to be held during the next school holiday in December.
