THE Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF), Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah, made a two-day official visit to the International Monitoring Team (IMT) in Mindanao, the Republic of Philippines.
The RBAF Commander was joined by the Commissioner of the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF), Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Mohd Jammy bin Haji Mohd Shah Al-Islam.
According to a press release, the arrival of the Commander of the RBAF and Commissioner of Police at the Awang Airport, Cotabato City was welcomed by the Commander of 6th Infantry Division, Major General Edmundo R Pangilinan and other senior officers from the 6th Infantry Division.
The Commander of the RBAF also received a general salute and inspected a guard of honour from the 6th Infantry Division.
The delegation had a closer look at the progress of the International Monitoring Team in Mindanao, particularly the well-being of the Bruneian troops deployed since September 2015. Currently the Brunei IMT-12 comprises of eight RBAF and one RBPF personnel.
The Commander of the RBAF and Commissioner of Police also paid a courtesy call on the IMT Head of Mission, Major General Datuk Wira Zamrose bin Mohd Zain during their visit to the IMT Headquarters.
They were introduced to the IMT members and were updated on the latest situation in Mindanao.
The delegation also visited the Brunei Darussalam IMT Contingent at Team Site 1 and heard a situational update brief by the Brunei Head of Contingent, Lieutenant Colonel Azman bin Haji Bangkol.
During this visit, the RBAF Commander and delegation also had the opportunity to distribute personal gifts (kurnia) of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, to the people of Mindanao at the Grand Mosque. The gifts came in the form of Al-Quran and dates (kurma).
Their visit at the Grand Mosque was welcomed by the former congressman Didagen Dilangalen and Ustaz Nhorul-am Abdullah, committee on Da’wah and Masjid Affairs, Cotabato City.
Highlighting their visit during the blessed month of Ramadhan, the RBAF Commander, Police Commissioner and other members of the delegation had the opportunity to break their fast and performed Tarawikh prayers and ‘sahur’ with the Brunei contingent.
Throughout the 12th year of deploying Brunei Darussalam uniformed personnel to IMT since 2004, the Sultanate continues to commit in providing assistance towards peace and stability in the region.
The IMT mission has provided substantial operational experience for both the RBAF and RBPF. To date, RBAF has sent 130 personnel to Mindanao for the peace monitoring mission.
