HIS Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Chancellor of Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA), consented to present graduation certificates to 208 graduates yesterday at the university’s 8th Hafl Al-Takharruj (Convocation Ceremony) held at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas.
Also in attendance at the ceremony was His Royal Highness Prince (Dr) Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Pro-Chancellor of UNISSA.
Notably present at this year’s event were representatives of 21 higher learning institutions from India, Bangladesh, Sudan, Timor Leste, Malaysia and Indonesia.
Upon arrival, His Majesty was greeted by Minister of Education and Chairman of the UNISSA Council Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman, Minister of Religious Affairs and Deputy Chairman of UNISSA Council Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman and UNISSA Rector Dr Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal.
While being ushered to the Plenary Hall, His Majesty was welcomed with a Dikir and Selawat performance.
The ceremony then officially began with the playing of the national anthem and the recitation of Surah Al-Kahfi verses by a Bachelor of Aqidah and Dakwah degree graduate Abdul Qawiyuddin bin Suhaili.
After this, Al-Hadith was read by a Bachelor of Arabic Language degree graduate Muhammad Nuralif bin Haji Talib, while the interpretation of the Surah was read by Syariah (Fiqh and Judiciary) degree graduate Muhammad Khairul Wafiy bin Khairil Anuar.
This was followed by a welcoming address from UNISSA Rector Dr Haji Norarfan.
