JERUDONG International School (JIS) once again celebrated Peace Week, a spectacular combination of educational, artistic and recreational events, designed to celebrate the United Nations (UN) International Day of Peace.
The week was led, planned and coordinated by the Head Girl Rania Teguh and Head Boy Jacob Hill.
The week commenced with peace-themed activities and video presentations in tutor periods on Monday. The focus was on the UN Sustainable Development Goal 16 (UN SDG 16): To promote just, peaceful and inclusive societies.
Senior students participated in a peace-themed chalk drawing event during lunchtime on Monday. The students also performed music with a focus of peace during lunchtimes throughout the week.
Yesterday, students chose to pay BND2 and wear white clothes to symbolise peace.
Monies raised from this will be donated to the charities which the school supports including the Polio Points initiative.
The extended lunchtime included a number of vendors coming into school to sell their products. The students had included several new and start-up companies.
A ‘Peace Museum’ exhibition was set up by the students to encourage and challenge students about the UN SDG 16.
The ‘Random Act of Kindness Day’ was held on Thursday.
A new ‘Kindness’ project was launched to encourage students to consider others.
Administration staff members received ‘thank you’ cookies from senior students.
The week culminated in peace-themed assemblies planned and led by the student leadership team.
JIS Principal Barnaby Sandow said, “Peace Week is a unique and special week at JIS as part of the hard work of the senior students. Seeing everyone working toget-her to raise money for charity is inspiring. It reminds me that genuine education goes well beyond the classroom. It reminds us to value the blessing of living in Brunei Darussalam, a beautiful country of peace.”
