IT HAS been 60 years since Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Muhammad Jamalul Alam, the 28th Sultan of Brunei Darussalam officiated the Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque on September 26, 1958.
The Mosque Affairs Department held a religious event at the mosque yesterday to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque, with assistance from the mosque’s Takmir committee.
Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman attended the event as the guest of honour.
Also present were Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar, senior officials, officers and staff from the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
The event began with mass Maghrib prayer and Sunnat Hajat prayer. The recitation of Surah Yaasiin and Tahlil was led by Mudim Haji Matassim bin Haji Metussin.
Doa Kesyukuran was then led by Superintendent of the Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque Zulkifli bin Haji Murat.
The event concluded with mass Isyak prayer.
