HIS Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday received in audience Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Nikolai Patrushev. The audience ceremony took place at the Istana Nurul Iman.
Accompanying Nikolai Patrushev were State Secretary and Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation Igor Zubov and Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Brunei Darussalam Vladlen Semivolos.
Also present were Minister of Defence II Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof; Commissioner of the Royal Brunei Police Force Dato Paduka Seri Haji Mohammad Jammy bin Haji Muhd Shah Al-Islam; Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Major General Pengiran Dato Paduka Seri Aminan bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud; and Permanent Secretary (Security and Enforcement) at the Prime Minister’s Office and Director of the Internal Security Department Lieutenant Colonel (Rtd) Pengiran Haji Muhamad Sazali bin Pengiran Haji Yakob.
Nikolai Patrushev heads the delegation’s first visit to Brunei Darussalam. The purpose of the visit is to establish bilateral cooperation especially in the security sector.
The visit also included a bilateral meeting between the National Security Committee and the Security Council of the Russian Federation, which discussed current issues and bilateral cooperation in security matters.
Bilateral relations between the two countries have long been established, involving interactions between security agencies of Brunei Darussalam and the Russian Federation, among which was Brunei Darussalam’s participation in the International Meeting of High-Ranking Officials Respon-sible for Security Matters held annually in the Russian Federation.
