THE safety of boat operators and passengers is crucial since maritime transport is often subject to unstable weather or rough water conditions, said Head of Islamic Religious Knowledge (IRK) at the Inspectorate Section of the Islamic Studies Department (JPI) Haji Mohammad Yussof bin Haji Menudin.
“Boat operators should use vessels that meet the safety standards and regulations,” he said, reminding those present to recite a Doa prior to boarding any means of transportation.
He made these comments at the pre-dawn talk entitled Nikmat Maritim Selautan Rahmat to give an Islamic perspective on maritime safety organised by the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) and the Ministry of Communications (MinCom) with the support of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
The talk was held to commemorate World Maritime Day 2018 and calling attention to efforts made by the Maritime and Port Authority of Brunei Darussalam (MPABD) to raise awareness on the importance of maritime safety.
The talk was part of the Masjidku Makmur, Negaraku Berkat programme at the Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque.
Minister at the PMO Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd Daud, Minister of Communications Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yusof, Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar, Permanent Secretary at the MoRA Dato Seri Setia Haji Abdul Aziz bin Orang Kaya Maharaja Lela Haji Mohd Yusof, Permanent Secretary at the MinCom Haji Azhar bin Haji Ahmad, Permanent Secretary at the PMO Haji Roslan bin Haji Taja’ah, and Deputy Permanent Secretary (Policy and Religious) at the MoRA Haji Mohd Serudin bin Haji Timbang attended the talk.
