STUDENT talents came to light as they showcased their creative skills at the Project Approach in enhancing Skills, Creativity and Innovation (PASCI) 2018 Exhibition yesterday.
Various student projects lined the halls of Politeknik Brunei (PB) School of Science and Engineering, Lumut Campus at the expo.
PASCI 2018 was held following the success of the previous exhibition in October last year.
Director of PB Denis Ho Mun Tai launched the exhibition as the guest of honour. He was welcomed by PASCI Chairperson Noorbaidzayanie binti Kamis and a PB education officer.
Noorbaidzayanie and three students representing the School of Science and Engineering shared their views about the PASCI and the impact it had on them.
“The PASCI exhibition held last year was a small event which provided a starting line for the students. This year, we have over 364 students from the Level 5 Diploma programme showcasing their projects at the campus,” Noorbaidzayanie explained.
Among the students participating in the exhibition included 114 students from the Level 5 Diploma in Science Technology (Chemical Laboratory Technology) programme, 61 from Level 5 Diploma in Petroleum Engineering programme, 69 from the Level 5 Diploma in Architecture programme, 50 from the Level 5 Diploma in Interior Design programme, and 70 from the Level 5 Diploma in Mechanical Engineering programme.
Noorbaidzayanie said the students’ projects were only shown in a closed setting – such as classroom. The exhibition allows other students from the campus and secondary students from the surrounding area to view the projects.
“We want to provide an essential platform for the students participating in the PASCI exhibition to not only further develop their skills, talents and creativity by providing quality education, but also to help instil life-long learning, and helping to inspire students to continue to gain more knowledge by sharing them in an exhibition such as this,” she said.
Student representative Nur Aqilah binti Ahmad from the Diploma in Science Technology noted that the exhibition allowed them not only a chance to showcase their group project, but also helped them build the necessary skills to integrate into the workforce.
Amir Ali bin Abidin from Diploma in Petroleum Engineering noted that the PASCI exhibition provided a unique opportunity to interact with students of the campus.
“We are all excited this year to be able to be a part of the PASCI exhibition, which serves to nurture and improve our presentation skills,” he said.
Siti Nurhamizah binti Haji Mahadee from Diploma in Architecture spoke about the success of the previous PASCI exhibition, noting that it had provided her team constructive feedback which was used to improve their project this year.
“The feedback helped us to become better designers,” she said.
The guest of honour officially launched the PASCI 2018 Exhibition logo, and toured the exhibition and displays.
Some projects came from final year students. Students demonstrated their creativity through posters, models, artworks, videos, as well as displays such as furniture and lightings.
Aimed at helping students to gain knowledge and exposure in the relevant industries, the PASCI exhibition is also an opportunity to unite attendees from different fields through various interactive programmes and displays.
