Crown Prince attends luncheon with S’pore PM, tours university

HIS Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office attended a luncheon with Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore Lee Hsien Loong yesterday.

Accompanying His Royal Highness was Senior Minister of State for Defence and Foreign Affairs Dr Mohamad Maliki bin Osman as the Minister-in-Attendance.

Upon arrival at the Istana, His Royal Highness was greeted by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore.

His Royal Highness then signed the Istana’s Guest Book and joined a photograph session with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore before proceeding to the West Drawing Room for a meeting.

After the meeting, His Royal Highness and the Prime Minister proceeded to Yusof Ishak Room for the luncheon.

His Royal Highness tours the drone and robot showcase at the Singapore University of Technology and Design

Present at the luncheon were Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Finance Heng Swee Keat, Minister for the Environment and Water Resources Masagos Zulkifli bin Masagos Mohamad, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office Dato Paduka Seri Ng Chee Meng, Minister for Education Ong Ye Kung and High Commissioner of the Republic of Singapore to Brunei Darussalam Lim Hong Huai.

Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd Daud, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah and High Commissioner of Brunei Darussalam to the Republic of Singapore Haji Awang Saifulbahri bin Haji Mansor were also present.

Brunei Darussalam and Republic of Singapore have enjoyed excellent and longstanding relations through several ongoing cooperation and interaction at the bilateral and regional level such as the Currency Interchangeability Agreement, defence, trade and investment, education and health.

His Royal Highness then visited the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD).

His Royal Highness was greeted by Minister for Education and President of SUTD Professor Ching Tow Chong.

His Royal Highness was ushered to the library to view an exhibition on Material Collection Gallery and was given a presentation about the university. His Royal Highness also had the chance to meet and greet with SUTD students and lecturers who showcased their projects. His Royal Highness also met with Mohd Hamizan Haziq bin Munawar, a student from Brunei Darussalam in his final year at the university.

His Royal Highness witnessed a live demo showcase of drones and robots at the campus centre and toured the exhibitions on Virtual Reality Helmet and E-Payment Vending Machine at the Entrepreneurship Incubation Centre.

His Royal Highness was ushered to International Design Centre to view some of the projects and prototypes produced by the university.

His Royal Highness toured the Fabrication Lab to witness a few projects namely the Water Jet Printing and 3D Printing. His Royal Highness visited the Jackie Chan Pavilion for a group photo with the Minister for Education and SUTD senior officials.

SUTD was established to advance knowledge and to nurture technically grounded leaders and innovators to serve the societal needs. It was aimed to be a leading research-intensive global university which focusses on technology and all elements of technology-based designs.
