“The objective of the netball tournament is to develop the sport in Brunei and to give a platform for everyone regarding the skill level, to get together and practice their skills in different levels,” said Kamal Flynn, one of the organisers of the tournament.
Asked what they hoped to achieve at the end of the tournament, he said, “I hope all the players will get motivated to practice their skills more and develop their skills.
“Outside Brunei there are a lot of competitions. There are not many competitions here in Brunei, so outside, netball players have good opportunities to develop their skills to help them become national players.
“I’m hoping that through this netball competition, an environment will be created for more national players for Brunei Darussalam,” he said.
The tournament has attracted 156 players highlighting the popularity and the huge interest for the sport.
Six teams are divided into two groups with the top two winners of each group advancing into the knock-out stages and subsequently for a place in the final and a shot for the title.
The competition will be played in accordance with the official rules of the International Federation of Netball Associations.
A champion will be crowned during the prize presentation ceremony on November 18, after the conclusion of the final.
