THE #hearwithus project played out its core aims and concepts at the Faculty of Integrated Technologies (FIT), Universiti Brunei Darussalam yesterday.

The #hearwithus project – a programme by online students of a project management module in collaboration with the National Association of the Hearing-Impaired (OKP) – can be accessed on Instagram.

Aziz bin Assan was the interpreter at the event.

The event included a forum that featured key issues of the hearing impaired in Brunei Darussalam. The issues included different perspectives – from members of the OKP, other organisations and individuals involved with the hearing impaired – on how to motivate them and the integration of hearing impaired persons in society.

Activities included a video film production by Hoco Agency highlighting the issues faced by the hearing impaired, basic sign language classes, an interaction booth and other sessions which involved sign language.

There was also a small café manned by OKP members.

Legislative Council member Yang Berhormat Iswandy bin Ahmad was the guest of honour, while OKP President Muhd Nur’Azwan bin Haji Aziz, OKP member Norsyehida binti Mersidi, a family member of OKP Rabiatul binti Osman, and Special Education Unit Officer Widiafalena Surhan were the panellists at the event.

The attendees and participants of the project session were members of the #hearwithus project and the OKP.

According to the organisers, the event served as a platform to raise public awareness on the issues faced by the hearing impaired.
