MINISTER of Culture, Youth and Sports Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin launched the Splendid Chapters of Silk Road Cultures Exhibition and Brunei Special Issue of China Report Asean Magazine at the Art Gallery of Dermaga Diraja in the capital yesterday.

The exhibition was hosted by the State Council Information Office (SCIO) of China; Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports; and the Embassy of China in Brunei Darussalam, and jointly organised by China International Publishing Group, Brunei Museums Department and Brunei-China Friendship Association.

Vice Minister of the SCIO of China Guo Weimin in his welcoming address said that over the years Brunei Darussalam and the People’s Republic of China enjoyed great friendship and partnership, further strengthened with the ‘One Belt, One Road’ initiative where both parties have seen stronger relations and increased cooperation.

He added that China has been the largest tourist market for Brunei while at the same time there are also more Bruneians visiting the country either for studies or training. “This could expand exchange in the field of culture, health and other achievements,” he said.

Ambassador of China to Brunei Darussalam Yang Jian stressed on the friendship between Brunei and China. She said with the visit by the SCIO, it was very overwhelming in seeing another field of cooperation being explored between both countries and wished to achieve more.

The ancient silk road of trade not only promotes trade but also promotes the flow of people and ideas, culture exchanges and understandings between different parts of the world.

The minister led the ribbon cutting ceremony and the launch of Brunei Special Issue of China Report Asean Magazine.

This was followed by a tour of the exhibition displaying three categories of photos; arts and handicrafts, and Brunei Special Issue of China Report Asean.

The photos showcase the unique scenery and architecture of China and Brunei; the historical exchanges between both countries; and achievements of cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, tourism, sports and education since the establishment of diplomatic relations.

The arts and handicrafts sections, meanwhile, showcase Chinese and Bruneian craftsmen including works of embroidery, painting, porcelain, and paper cutting.
