SOME 668 residents of Kampong Sungai Buloh turned up at the village’s second voting and selection ceremony last week to nominate the village head for the STKRJ Kampong Sungai Buloh (Bukit Sibanging).
In the end, Hamidun bin Mohd Daud, who works at the Ministry of Defence and has lived in STKRJ Kampong Sungai Buloh (Bukit Sibanging) for seven years, was chosen, with the 53-year-old garnering 520 out of 668 votes.
During the counting of votes and village head nominee announcement ceremony at the Brunei-Muara District Office, Berakas, the guest of honour, Legislative Council member and Village Head of Kampong Masjid Lama, Pekan Muara, Sabun and Pelumpong Yang Berhormat Pengiran Haji Mohamed bin Pengiran Haji Osman @ Othman called on the residents to be more proactive and less indifferent on issues concerning their village.
“The voting ceremony allows the residents to choose the best village head, which is important for the future of the village, especially in terms of the people’s welfare,” he said.
“I hope the candidate will play a proactive role in leading the village to address any issues, such as physical developments, social issues, village safety and cultural and religious activities, and be a leader that is trustworthy, fair, patient and forgiving.”
He added, “To achieve the vision of developing the village, the leader and residents must cooperate to instil unity and harmony within the community, and work together towards improving the wellbeing and welfare of the village.”
Also present at the vote counting and announcement ceremony were Brunei-Muara District Officer Misle bin Haji Abdul Karim; representative of the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs Jaimah binti Tuah; witnesses of the vote counting; and village heads and representatives of village heads of Mukim Mentiri and its surrounding areas.
