EASYWAY won their fourth title in six years after dispatching D’Sunlit 89-72 in the SpeedSend Cup final at the Brunei Basketball Association Court in Batu Bersurat last night.

Easyway team manager Wira Pori labelled the sweetest victory of all the matches at this stage of the competition after showing that they were the far superior side in every aspect of the game.

“We never experienced any real challenges. We’re kings in our offence but in the end we got together, nailed the rotation down and we blew them out as we should have been doing all tournament long,” the manager said after the final in an interview with the Bulletin.

Wira admitted third-placed Juramas was also a deserved final contender after running them close in the group stage and remained the only team that provided them the most threat.

Wira concurred that they should have been reunited with Juramas in the final but as it would turn out they faced D’Sunlit.

“To me, it should have been Juramas. They’re the one who gave us the big scare. Hats off to them for being the biggest underdog in the tournament but at the same time the most loaded as well,” the team manager continued.

“However, the basketball gods dictated that we should meet D’Sunlit and we took them to court because of it.

“I like to say thank you to the players for putting in a great effort despite our shortcomings on and off the court”, Wira said.

Asked how he could sum up the tournament as a whole including the group stages, Pori had a clear message.

“People keep asking me if we’re delivering a statement. We showed it signed, sealed and delivered. If you want a statement, this is it.

“Blow out in championship. There’s no other way to send shockwaves and hope to see everyone next year fully loaded and even better than this year,” he said.

The team manager concluded that they hope to continue delivering entertaining basketball.

The guest of honour in the final was Haji Mohammad Sunadi bin Haji Buntar, Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs, who presented the championship trophy to Easyway.
