BRUNEI Darussalam wushu competitor Mohammad Adi Salihin bin Roslan secured a silver medal in the 18th Sukma after recording 9.54 points in the men’s nandaoevent at the SJK Chung Hua No 3 in Padungan yesterday.
The silver accomplishment marks Brunei’s best result so far in this year’s Sukma after winning three bronze in taekwondo earlier in the competition.
Having seen his hopes of a medal faded in the nanquan and nangun events, Mohammd Adi bested 18 other entries only losing to Calvin Lee Wai Leong who recorded 9.56 points and ahead of bronze medallist Caleb Kiran Bala of Malacca who scored 9.49 points.
Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, presented the silver medal to the wushu athlete.
National wushu head coach Li Hui was delighted with his pupil’s achievement and indicated that the silver success will serve as a springboard for a brighter future.
“I am very satisfied to obtain this result and I thank the government for the support”, Hui briefed the media.

The head coach also hoped that the government will send athletes to China for training and competition overseas after highlighting that their second place finish showcased Brunei’s calibre at a high level of competition.
He emphasised the difference between the young athlete and the gold medal was only separated by the slightest of margins.
Hui added that Mohammad Adi possesses the potential to be the future in representing the country’s wushu.
The next target for the head coach is the SEA Games which will be held next year in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Meanwhile, compatriot Basma Lachkar finished in a disappointing eighth place in the women’s jiansu event after recording 8.60 points in an event won by Aggie Cheah Ruey Shin of Pulau Pinang with 9.58 points.
Sarawak’s Fu Wen Jie claimed silver with 9.43 points while team member Stephanie Ngu Chai Ern settled for bronze with 9.33 points.
