A CHINESE woman embraced Islam in a conversion ceremony held at the residence of Dato Paduka Haji Mohammad Aziyan bin Abdullah at Kampong Batang Mitus in the Tutong District yesterday.
Leady Elezebard Yong chose the name Naira Zaheera binti Abdullah Yong.
Minister of Defence II Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof was the guest of honour. Legislative Council member Haji Umarali bin Esung also attended.
The conversion ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah, and was followed by the recitation of Syahadah by Naira Zaheera in the presence of Islamic Da’wah Centre officials and invited guests.
Between January and November 2018, 359 individuals embraced Islam, 92 of whom are from the Tutong District. Of this, 61 are Chinese.
