THE Thai Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives Dr Wiwat Salyakamthorn led a delegation of experts to the paddy fields of Wasan and Limau Manis yesterday to collect soil samples and inspect seedlings.
Under the invitation of the Brunei Government through the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism, Dr Salyakamthorn is on a two-day working visit to Brunei Darussalam to share his country’s experiences on the challenges of paddy-planting, sulphuric acid soil and irrigation.
Beside the paddy fields, the Thai delegation also visited the rice production areas at Batang Perhantian and Batong.
Accompanying Dr Salyakamthorn were Director of Agriculture and Agrifood Hajah Aidah binti Haji Mohd Hanifah and Khairunissa binti Haji Omar Ali, an Agronomist at the Department of Agriculture and Agrifood.
Dr Salyakamthorn is also scheduled to deliver a presentation today at the Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) Agro-Technology Campus on agricultural land management, the maintenance and management of sulphate soil for agriculture, and conventional irrigation systems.
The talk will be attended by Department of Agriculture and Agrifood staff and agricultural entrepreneurs, as well as staff and students of IBTE Agro-Technology Campus.
While in Brunei Darussalam, Dr Salyakamthorn will also hold bilateral discussions on collaborative projects under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Brunei Darussalam’s Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism and Thailand’s Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives.
