A TOTAL of 148 volunteers collected 1.5 tonnes of litter during the recent Coastal Conservation campaign organised at Serasa Beach by Poni Divers, in collaboration with the Universiti Brunei Darussalam Students’ Association (PMUBD) and the UBD Rugby and the School of Business and Economics Student Council.

The clean-up was held as part of International Volunteer Day 2018, with the joint support of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.

The guest of honour was UBD Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Academic Affairs) Pengiran Dr Mohammad Iskandar bin Pengiran Haji Petra, who commended the efforts of the volunteers and organisers.

Poni Divers holds regular beach clean-ups with the objective of raising awareness for environmental conservation, inspiring volunteerism and to promote a sense of community.

The Coastal Conservation campaign was devised by event chairperson and former intern at Poni Divers Nur Afiqah binti Haji Mamit to increase awareness among the local community on the importance of preserving Brunei’s marine ecosystem.
