A FLAG handing-over ceremony for athletes departing for the Asian Netball Championship 2016 in Thailand was held yesterday afternoon at the Lecture Theatre of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas.
Datin Paduka Hajah Intan, President of Brunei Darussalam Netball Association (BNA) presented the flag to the team captain at the ceremony.
In an interview with the Bulletin, Coach Thilaka commented that the team are doing well and they will face the teams match by match.
“Two players were replaced, but the replacements also showed good potential as one player was a former national player and the other is a junior player.”
“After Thailand, we expect to send the junior team to Korea and I also told the team to prepare for the next Southeast Asian (SEA) Games 2017. We hope to fight hard to be on the podium again, as third place instead of fourth.”
“Defeating Singapore and Malaysia is something, but I don’t see it happening soon for Brunei, with all the experience, it will take time, but it can be done. The girls have already experienced and they know what they doing. Once they play carefully, I am sure they will give a challenge to these two countries.”
“The girls need to stay in focus and maintain their discipline, these are very important. Physically and mentally they are ready,” Coach Thilaka added.
