Managing stint for local graduates

IN UPHOLDING the titah of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam who wants to see direct involvement of the youth of the country in playing roles for the common goal of empowering national economic growth, a total of 16 graduates who completed their studies locally and overseas will manage a restaurant at the Departure Hall of the Brunei International Airport.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the restaurant named – Tarindak Ungkayah Graduan Restaurant – is provisioned by His Majesty, as demonstration of the concern on the welfare of the youth in the country and will be the only restaurant here that will be fully managed and run by local graduates. “His Majesty has consented for the outlet for the local graduates to strive and earn incomes, in line with His Majesty’s desire to see the youth as agents of change and successful entrepreneurs who are not fully dependent on the government,” added a press statement.

The 16 graduates are Nur Sahkina binti Rosli from Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA), Nurul Majidah binti Zakaria from Birmingham University, Asmaliani binti Ahmad from Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), Nur Amalina Farhana binti Mohd Hamri from Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB), Nurul Azyani binti Rudy Sahardey from UBD, Awangku Akmalakbar bin Pengiran Haji Badaruddin from Asia-Pacific University of Technology and Innovation Malaysia, Md Khairul Anwar bin Jadi from Kolej International Graduate Studies (KIGS), Muhammad Helmi bin Haji Tamam from UTB, Fatin Nor Afifah binti Haji Abdul Ghani from UNISSA, Mohamad Ashrafil bin Mohamad Ariffin from UBD, Muhammad Yasin bin Yusof from UTB, Hajah Fatimah binti Haji Abdul Razak Lim from KDU University College Malaysia, Nurhanisah binti Mohamad Shamsul from Kemuda Institute, as well as Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) Sultan Saiful Rijal Campus students Siti Rahmah binti Mohamad Ali Hussin, Nur Azirah binti Asba and Mohammad Ardzierrul bin Osman.

The graduates expressed their utmost gratitude to His Majesty for the continuous concern on their welfare and pledged to work hard in ensuring the success of the restaurant, and said the opportunity is hoped to not only boost their morale to always improve but also to become role models to other graduates to try and venture out and explore something new and to get out of their comfort zones.

The official opening ceremony for the restaurant will be held tomorrow at 10am. Senior government officials including Cabinet Ministers and Legislative Council members will attend the ceremony.

It is also hoped that the restaurant will gain encouraging response from the public, in helping the young entrepreneurs uphold the titah of His Majesty.
