THE Glam Kampong Galore – Sabi Dai Ga Lamin Warisan festival, which showcased village life in the 1950s, was held in Kampong Tanjong Maya, Tutong recently.
The event was organised by the Lamin Warisan family in collaboration with Eco Ponies Garden.
The main highlight of the event was a house built in 1956, which showcases daily life in that particular era.
Present as guest of honour was Legislative Council (LegCo) member Yang Berhormat Iswandy bin Ahmad.
LegCo member and Penghulu of Mukim Tanjong Maya Yang Berhormat Haji Abdul Wahab bin Apong, Acting Tutong District Officer Haji Azmi bin Haji Abdul Rahim, head of the Lamin Warisan family Dato Lela Raja Haji Majair bin Bendahari Haji Ghafar, Manager of Eco Ponies Garden Eyon Ukoi and Commanding Officer of Tutong Police District were also present.
The Lamin Warisan hosted visitors including presenters from Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM). Organisers also conducted several activities such as prawn-catching.
Yang Berhormat Iswandy said the active involvement of youth and the village community was essential towards the continuity of the Lamin Warisan project, which sought to depict a way of life where simplicity and friendliness was the main order of the day.
Event chairperson Nornaqibah binti Abdul Hamid said that the Lamin Warisan project was aimed at showcasing the cultural heritage of Kampong Tanjong Maya for local and foreign visitors.
“This should enhance the collaboration between Lamin Warisan and the village community, with more recreational activities and beneficial events as a source of revenue,” she said. “The Lamin Warisan heritage house, now in its 62nd year of existence, features daily village life, amid our current era of modern technology and fast-paced living.”
The Lamin Warisan house was the idea of Bendahari Haji Ghafar, who was the penghulu of Mukim Tanjong Maya in 1955.
