AMBD marks 8th anniversary with Doa Kesyukuran ceremony

AUTORITI Monetari Brunei Darussalam (AMBD) held a Doa Kesyukuran ceremony at the Hassanal Bolkiah Mosque in Kampong Perpindahan Mentiri yesterday, held in conjunction with the 8th anniversary of the establishment of AMBD.

Present during the ceremony was the Minister of Home Affairs Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong in his capacity as Deputy Chairman of AMBD Board of Directors; Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd Daud; and other members of the AMBD Board of Directors, as well as AMBD staff and officers.

The proceedings began with the recitation of Surah Yaasiin followed by Doa Kesyukuran led by Imam of Hassanal Bolkiah Mosque Haji Shamsul bin Haji Latif.

AMBD was established on January 1, 2011 to act as the central bank of Brunei Darussalam.

According to a press release, the main objectives of AMBD are to achieve and maintain domestic price stability; to ensure the stability of the financial system; to assist in the establishment and functioning of efficient payment systems and to oversee them; and to foster and develop a sound and progressive financial services sector.

“In order to carry out these objectives, AMBD was mandated with three core functions, which is the formulation and implementation of monetary policies, the regulation and supervision of financial institutions, and currency issuance and management,” the press statement said.

“Through the years, AMBD’s functions have expanded to meet the market demands and expectations, such as the provision of Credit Bureau and safeguarding the interests of financial consumers in Brunei Darussalam.”

It was shared that, towards achieving Brunei Vision 2035, AMBD has trained and developed the young professionals to become experts in the field of supervision, finance, Islamic finance and economy, by promoting continuous learning for officers and staff of AMBD.

The press release added that AMBD has also been working continuously with higher education institutions to provide comprehensive training to students through internship programmes. The Centre for Islamic Banking, Finance and Management (CIBFM), under AMBD’s purview, has also provided training within the same field for industry players as well as members of the public.
