ZARIFAH binti Haji Musa’s wish for a brand-new car came true yesterday, when she won a hot-selling Hyundai Creta worth around $28,000 in the UEFA Euro 2016 ‘Guess the Semi-Finalists’ Contest organised by Brunei Press Sdn Bhd, in partnership with Setia Motors Sdn Bhd and Makan Ceria Sdn Bhd.

The 34-year-old assistant officer from the Islamic Religious Council Department was the first of the 11 finalists to pick a key out of a bowl, and she managed to select the right key to the brand-new Hyundai Creta.

Zarifah told the Bulletin, “I am very excited, yet nervous and very happy. I can’t believe I have won a car.”

Describing the moment, she said, “I didn’t think I would win, because I picked the wrong key in the first round. But since none of the other finalists managed to start the car, I felt that I had another chance at winning. In the second round, I just picked the key and then managed to turn it to start the new Creta.”

On choosing the correct semi-final teams for the UEFA Euro 2016, she said “I watched most of the Euro 2016 matches this year.Besides Germany and France, Wales and Portugal stood a good chance of entering the semi-finals.”

She also disclosed that she had submitted around 40 entries, with varying answers on the semi-final teams.

This year, more than 21,000 entries were submitted in the contest, but only 185 entries correctly named the semi-finalists for the UEFA Euro 2016.

When asked about her plans for her new car, Zarifah replied, “I will be using the new Hyundai Creta for daily use, because I am still using the car that I bought in 2003, which is 13 years ago.”

She also thanked Setia Motors as well as Makan Ceria and Brunei Press for organising the event, at the same time expressing the hope that the contest will continue to be a staple at every World Cup and UEFA Euro Championship.

Representing Brunei Press at the prize presentation ceremony was Reggie See, its General Manager, as well as the management team.

Setia Motors Sdn Bhd was represented by James Chin, the General Manager; and Fadhillah bin Sulaiman, the Senior Sales and Marketing Executive.

Hafilah binti Mohd Salleh, the Human Resource Executive of Makan Ceria, represented McDonald’s.

Reggie See expressed his thanks for the generous support of Setia Motors Sdn Bhd, the main distributor of Hyundai, and Makan Ceria Sdn Bhd, the operator of McDonald’s.

He said, “Football is the most popular game in Brunei, and we hope to continue to organise more contests for future major football trophies, including the FIFA World Cup.”

James Chin also conveyed his appreciation to the Brunei Press for giving Setia Motors the opportunity to co-host a contest during a major football event.

“We always look forward for another opportunity to work together with Brunei Press in future events,” he said.
