THE Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan (KUPU SB) announced a number of new programmes to realise the objectives of the university as an effective training institution for teachers, at a press conference held at the campus yesterday.
Present to speak to the media during the event was Dr Haji Adanan bin Haji Besar, Acting Ra’es of KUPU SB.
He explained that the programmes are created in line with the Islamic Religious Knowledge (IRK) curriculum content in private or government schools from pre-primary to upper secondary levels.
Programmes that have been introduced for the upcoming semester comprise Bachelor of Religious Education with minors that includes Study of Al-Quran and Sunnah, Islamic Philosophy and Thought, Preaching and Leadership, Fiqh and Usul Fiqh, Ahwal Syakhsiyah, Islamic Finance, Early Childhood Education, Islamic Guidance and Counselling, Special Education, Islamic Multimedia Education, Islamic Social Sciences Education, Islamic Health Education, Islamic Arts Education, Islamic Malay and Literature Education, Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB) Education, and Islamic Entrepreneurship Education; Religious Education Postgraduate Diploma; Masters of Religious Education that includes Masters of Usuluddin Religious Education, Masters of Syariah Religious Education, Masters of Islamic Education, Masters of Islamic History and Civilisation, Masters of Islamic Literature, Masters of Arabic Language, and Masters of Ahli Sunnah Wal Jama’ah Studies; and Doctor of Philosophy Degree in the same courses as the Masters of Religious Education.
Dr Haji Adanan said the new programmes will also prepare professional teaching courses that are better arranged according to a proper curriculum standard with a more practical and efficient teaching education through comparative research with the best practises in international education institutions, along with adding a balance of personality development in KUPU SB graduates among academic achievements with a holistic personality development through integration with the practical curricular programme.
The programme aims to produce religious teachers who are holistically competent, knowledgeable and charitable to be able to teach students effectively for the sake of virtue and piety to Allah the Almighty, added Dr Haji Adanan
Trainee teachers, by the end of the programme, are expected to become graduates who are competent with commands such as ‘knowledgeable, practical and civil teachers’, ‘mastered the IRK curriculum’, ‘mastered pedagogy’, ‘professional teacher’, ‘teachers devoted in welfare’, ‘teachers led by MIB’, ‘intellectual teachers’, and ‘teachers with various skills’.
“The new programmes are important in the growth and development of the country and internationally, specifically in the spreading of Islam through Islamic education,” said the Acting Ra’es of KUPU SB. “On a national level, the new programmes will produce religious teachers who have mastered – in depth- the content syllabus of Islamic Religious Knowledge curriculum in schools and will be able to teach effectively to students.”
Dr Haji Adanan added that the graduates will be educated in various co-curriculum activities for their personal development with an MIB identity as well as responsibilities and commitment in social development which are in line with the National Vision 2035.
On an international level, KUPU SB will be able to compete with international higher education institutions as the curriculum has a standard much like other higher education institutions that is better and more effective as it combines academic development with the character development of teachers through co-curriculum activities.
KUPU SB also aims to become a leader in the Islamic teaching education among countries in the region and other Islamic countries in line with its vision.
