Malaysian Defence Minister visits Royal Regalia Museum

MALAYSIAN Defence Minister Haji Mohamad bin Sabu and his delegation continued to visit several historical and cultural sites in the capital yesterday as part of his visiting programme to Brunei Darussalam from January 22.

Minister of Defence II Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof accompanied the Malaysian Defence Minister for the morning exercise and briskwalk at the Taman Mahkota Jubli Emas in the capital. A breakfast was later hosted at the park.

The Malaysian minister and his delegation then visited Royal Regalia Museum where he was accompanied by Minister of Defence II.

Upon arrival, they were welcomed by Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) Datin Paduka Dr Hajah Norlila binti Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Jalil; senior officers from the Ministry of Defence and MCYS.

The Malaysian delegation was briefed on the background of the museum by Manager of the Royal Regalia Museum Pengiran Norazah binti Pengiran Haji Muhammad. The museum has four main galleries exhibiting His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s 1968 coronation including Royal Regalia exhibits and development of Brunei Darussalam during 50 years of His Majesty’s rule.

The museum has won the Best Attraction Award from the Asia Travel and Tourism and Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence 2012.

Meanwhile, in the afternoon, the Malaysian Defence Minister and delegation visited Kampong Ayer, Cultural and Tourism Gallery and Kampong Peramu and Kampong Tamoi, which are small neighbourhoods in the vicinity of Kampong Ayer.

During the visit to Kampong Tamoi, the Malaysian minister was presented with a live demonstration on the preparation of Brunei Darussalam’s local delicacies and performances on Brunei Darussalam’s traditional music and pencak silat.

The Malaysian Defence Minister made his last stop at Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque where he performed the Asar prayer before concluding his visit to Brunei Darussalam.
