TOP drone pilots from the region converged at Jerudong Park (JP) Playground for the Southeast Asia Drone Racing Championship (SEADRC) 2019.
Pilots from China, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia and Brunei were in the race briefings followed by practise runs and qualifying rounds yesterday. The event continues today.
Among the pilots was a 12-year-old prodigy from Indonesia Kenrick Suyanto and the world’s youngest drone racing champion, 12-year-old Thai girl Wanraya Wannapong.
The race takes place at Jerudong Park’s Bando Mountain, near the Pusing Lagi area (opposite JP Amphitheatre). Pilots will fly their drones around the man-made mountain and surrounding lake and through makeshift tunnels and gates.
The champion will receive BND3,000, followed by BND2,000 for second place winner and BND1,000 for third place.

Drone racing is relatively new in Brunei and was officially introduced during the SEADRC Regional Open, a preliminary race to introduce drone racing to the world of drone racing. SEADRC is organised by Hyperdive and Dojo Studios.
Drone racing involves pilots controlling drones or quadcopters equipped with cameras while wearing head-mounted displays showing the live stream camera feed from the drones in First Person View (FPV). Similar to full size air racing, the goal is to complete a set course as quickly as possible.
