EIGHTEEN Japanese students from Osaka Kyoiku University and Setsunan University visited Sports School in Kampong Pulaie yesterday as part of their exchange programme under the Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youths (JENESYS) programme 2018.
They were welcomed by the school’s Principal Matt Lathem. Their visit began with a brief welcoming followed by an ice-breaking session.
The Japanese students, involved in a Judo demonstration yesterday, were engaged in a presentation and performances with their Bruneian counterparts. Their presentations touched on topics such as the strength and attractions of the country (foreign policy, technology), history, traditional/popular arts or culture, nature, people, life, education/school and so forth.
The students toured the campus and participated in classes as well.
As part of the programme, they are required to record their findings during their stay in Brunei, accounting their experiences and sharing Japan’s attractions in English and/or other languages.
After the programme, they are expected to carry out Implementation and Reporting of the Action Plan: Reporting Session in their School and/or others, Continuous Dissemination about Japan’s Strength and Attractions to Brunei and Submission of Questionnaire three months after their return to Japan.
The youth of both countries will foster a friendship through this exchange programme where the delegates will build a relationship of trust at the grass roots level between both countries through homestays and experiencing the different culture and life.
They will also introduce Japanese strengths to local families hosting them during their stay here.
Launched by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, the ‘Japan’s Friendship Ties Programmes’ serves to promote a people-to-people exchange between Japan and the various nations of Asia-Pacific, North America, Europe, Latin America, and the Caribbean.
