A TOTAL of 104 local graduates have been selected for the posts of contract-based English Language and Mathematics specialist teachers under a project by the Ministry of Education (MoE).
The second cohort of the project was welcomed in an induction programme launch at the MoE Complex in Jalan Airport Lama yesterday.
Deputy Permanent Secretary (Core Education) Aliuddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman was the guest of honour.
The five-day induction programme of the Recruitment and Management of Specialised Teachers and Head of Specialists of English Language and Mathematics is part of an early step to ensure the readiness of the graduates with basic teaching knowledge as well as English Language and Mathematics skills before they embark on classroom teaching.
The guest of honour, in his speech, said that the Local Contract Teacher (LCT) programme is part of MoE’s active drive in ensuring the excellence and welfare of teachers in the country.
He highlighted that since its inception in 2018, some 200 qualified local graduates have been recruited as English Language and Mathematics contract-based teachers and arrangements have been made to place them in a number of government primary and secondary schools.
“This is a long-term plan of the MoE to recruit more quality local teachers that are fit for the job,” he added.
According to Head of the Literacy and Numeracy Coaching Programme (LNCP) Haji Metusin bin Haji Jais, the recruitment process of the contract-based teachers include an online registration, sorting out for those with suitable academic qualifications, a micro-teaching boot camp and an interview process before their selection.
The induction programme aimed to give them more understanding on the mission, vision and roles of MoE and clear understanding of the English Language and Mathematics teac-hers’ profession, in supporting the Brunei Vision 2035, particularly in literacy and numeracy education.
The programme also supports the LNCP implemented by the MoE.
