Adi named as one of four imports in UiTM squad

BRUNEI Darussalam national forward Adi Said has been named as one of four new foreign imports in the UiTM FC squad who will compete in the upcoming Malaysia Premier League season.

The winger joined Senegal’s Robert Waly Lopez, Uganda’s Agele Bernard Coulibally and Zarko Korac, who will link up with the squad today.

UiTM FC newly-appointed head coach Ismail Zakaria hoped the quartet will fire the team to the top four of the league alongside the locals.

“This season marked the seventh year in the Malaysia Premier League and we have achieved various accomplishments since then, which allowed us to be in our current position today,” said Ismail on the sidelines of a jersey and players’ unveiling ceremony at the Sri Budiman Hall of Universiti Teknologi Mara in Shah Alam recently.

“This is why our target for this year is to at least secure a place in the top four, the final round of the FA Cup and winning the Fair Play Award.

“For the President Cup, we hope to reach the semi-finals, whereas for the Youth Cup team the target that we set for them is to reach the second round,” he continued.

Adi enjoyed his best season last term in the Singapore Premier League after registering 11 goals and 10 assists. He was the joint leader for assists alongside Albirex Niigata (S) Riku Moriyasu.

The former DPMM FC forward was also the second highest scorer for his old club behind Volodymyr Priyomov.

Adi made a case for selection in the starting line-up after scoring a goal in the 2-1 pre-season friendly win over Terengganu FC II recently.

UiTM FC will begin their campaign in Malaysia’s second tier in an away match against PDRM at the Selayang Municipal Council Stadium on Friday.
