HIS Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam received in audience Vice Chief of the Defence Staff of the United Kingdom (UK) General Sir Gordon Messenger yesterday afternoon.
General Sir Gordon Messenger was accompanied by British High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam Richard Lindsay and British Defence Advisor to Brunei Darussalam Colonel Mike Page.
Minister of Defence II Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof and Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) Major General Pengiran Dato Paduka Seri Aminan bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud were also present.
General Sir Gordon Messenger is in Brunei Darussalam until today as part of his visit to this region after participating in the ‘IISS Fullerton Forum: The Shangri-La Dialogue Sherpa Meeting’ held in the Republic of Singapore.
Brunei Darussalam and the United Kingdom enjoy a strong and longstanding defence relationship, underpinned by extensive defence and military interactions such as exchange of visits, defence and military meetings, military exercises, trainings, and courses.
These interactions have enhanced the interoperability and reinforced the people-to-people ties between the personnel of both the RBAF and the British Armed Forces.
On September 10, 2018, HMS ALBION conducted Exercise Setiakawan III with the RBAF.
The exercise involved personnel from the Royal Brunei Land Force and assets from the Royal Brunei Navy and Royal Brunei Air Force.
